Matlock-The Network/The Best Friend

How do I even begin to describe this episode??

Well for a start, the storyline is a bit hazy as I was creating this blog while I was watching the episode so the details are a bit sketchy but long story short, Matlock was defending a man accused of murdering some big Hollywood tv producer. And here is where the ridiculousness starts...

I had already seen Jason Bateman's name in the credits which made me wonder but I saw nothing on his IMDB actor credits so thought nothing more of it. So I'm sitting watching it (or pretending to) and suddenly Betty White appears on screen. Playing herself. Now I'm not a Betty White fan but seeing as Matlock is generally a dull watch, I was mildly excited. Betty was commenting as herself on the death of this fictional tv producer. Oh the lameness! I should add at this stage that the whole programme was actually based around some sort of cheesy Crimeline report on the whole case presented by two grinning idiots who didn't seem at all saddened or pretend saddened that this producer was dead. No somber-ness for them, instead they sat there smiling and making jokes back and forth about Matlock discovering what life is like in L.A. Oh hahahaha. Not. How this was meant to be realistic is beyond me seeing as they'd show Matlock eating lunch or in a meeting as if he was the star of The Hills with a camera following him everywhere.

Anywho, back to the 'plot'. Jason Bateman was followed by Rhea Perlman and some guy from L.A. Law all commenting on the producers death. No real excitement here. Then Matlock visits some guys office to talk to him (yes, some guy, I told you I wasn't paying attention) and lo and behold, his secretary is none other than Kelly Taylors drunk mother from Beverly Hills 90210 who of course later reprised her role in the new and shiny 90210! Anyone who knows me knows I get very excited seeing people in earlier roles when they weren't quite famous so by now I was pretty enthused!

Now it's back to more 'celebrity' interviews. And look, its one of the Cosbys! Not sure which one but wowee! Cut back to Matlock's assistant going to check something out and wahhhh its Horace from Dr. Quinn Medicine Woman! His appearance was fleeting but exciting nonetheless!

Anyway, they eventually solved the case and found the real murderer so there was time for one last 'celebrity' interview. Who with? Holy shit, its Alf! Yes THE Alf, not Alf Stewart, everyones favourite alien Alf. I may have wet myself with excitement at this stage.

And while the next episode of Matlock may not have been anywhere near as exciting, it did star Donna Martin's mother from Beverly Hills 90210 as a doctor! 90210 bonanza!!!
